The Proper Method for Cleaning Rugs Starts With Professional Rug Dusting

If you’ve ever thought, my rug doesn’t need cleaning, there’s a really good chance that you’ve forgotten what your rug looked like when it was brand new. We always recommend that our customers bring the rugs they purchase from us for a professional cleaning every 1-3 years. For some, with good intentions, time gets away from them and others feel it is not necessary just yet. Rugs have a tendency to hide dirt really well and when they get dirty it happens gradually.

Here is what’s happening below the surface: Every rug traps dust, granular dirt, and grit overtime. This dirt settles into the foundation of your rug and can not only make your rug look dull and old, but will drastically shorten the life of your rug. This fine sand like dirt will cut into the foundation of the rug and create premature wear spots. Vacuuming helps, but a much more intensive professional dusting will help vibrate the dirt out much better.

Let’s say that your rug didn’t get dusted before washing. Why is that bad?

  • Dust in your rug gets wet and turns to mud.
  • The mud hardens in the foundation.
  • The foundation becomes brittle and weak.
  • After the washing your rug is still not clean!
  •  picture below shows how rugs are professionally dusted.

In the picture below you will see a step by step guide to how we at Azia Rug Gallery professionally dust a rug in preparation for washing.
